A turly great piece!

This is a must own for any pop music fan the lyrics are incredible and her piano and vocal skills prove themselves again if you liked "Thousand Miles" then you will Love this. Recent criticism from some elements of the pop music Culture that Vanessa's music is just more manufactured pop are in my opinion are unfounded her lyrics are the most sincere of almost any Artist in the past few years. This is Vanessa at her best the sincerity shines through any clouds of doubt if you listen to her voice carefully and pay attention to her lyrics. Also she continues to prove her skills at the piano "Ordinary Day" in my opinion more than any of her other songs showcases her skills with the piano she handles masterfully the careful attention to detail that is required to make good piano music. And she continues to prove that the piano still has a place in modern pop music. All and all this album disserves no less than a Five star rating for remarkable care to detail in timing and coordination in her use of the piano and her incredible voice. And most of all the careful thought she put into all of her lyrics and still maintaining the sincerity that makes great pop music in my opinion this is one of the best albums of all to date.

Pop princess in disguise... people actually like this??!

I find it amusing that talented artists like Tori Amos and Mariah Carey don't get played. But Vanessa here does. Probably because of her marketing team and the fact that she's under 23. ...I also cannot believe people are comparing her to the likes of Fiona Appel or Tori Amos! Those two musicians are BOTH more talented then Vanessa will ever be. Trust me, Vanessa is merely a trend in this run of Pop princesses, who instead of sporting blonde hair and dancing attempt to play instruments and write their own music (IE: Michelle Branch)...

Another winner for Vanessa

I wasn't sure about buying this, but I picked it up anyway. I didn't regret it. For no easily explained reason, I considered "Ordinary Day" one of the weakest songs on her debut album. I must not have paid enough attention, because it has great lyrics, and it's great once you figure out what it's all about. I wasn't necessarily hooked initially, but I was taken by the piano/vocal version of the song. Her impassioned performance makes you believe it wholeheartedly. After all, Vanessa said in a chat at TeenPeople.com, "I happen to believe in every note I sing and play." It really shows on this maxi-single. The same energy and passion you hear in the piano/vocal version of "Ordinary Day" is on the Live version of "A Thousand Miles." She gives the song a new feel with a different arrangement and variations in the way she uses her voice. Of course, the CD also includes the enchanced CD-ROM portion with the "Ordinary Day" video, in which Vanessa looks very beautiful. This import is a great buy. I had imagined I would just put it on my shelf, since that is the fate of so many imports that include one or two rare non-LP tracks that wind up being mediocre, but this one is worth listening to.
