| Van Halen - Van Halen III Band: Van Halen Tracks: - Neworld - Without You - One I Want - From Afar - Dirty Water Dog - Once - Fire in the Hole - Josephina - Year to the Day - Primary - Ballot or the Bullet - How Many Say I Edward without limits... Edward Van Halen has described the writing for the "3" album as (not an exact quote) "like someone opened up a faucet... the music just poured out of me", and that is exactly how this album sounds. If you ever wanted to listen to unedited tapes of Eddie just "noodling" the intros to these songs should satisfy. However, I would have liked to have seen these longer musical passages boiled down to their most intense moments. Liken it to water... allowed to run free, it just runs off. If you control the water and put pressure on it, it can cut thru steel. Gary's vocal fit nicely, though it does seem he is straining to reach some notes. (note to Ed: There nothing wrong with tuning down some. None of your fans will hold it against you) However, the trademark background vocals seem lost in the mix. Overall, a noble experiment that falls short of what it was trying to achieve. P.S. Eddie, Tulsa has been waiting for you and The Band to return since the Fair Warning Tour. How about it? What The??? Not only bad by Van Halen standards, but by any standards. Even we die-hards have a difficult time listening to this. Two stars only because Eddie's still the best. This is such a poor effort that I would recommend taking the chance of file swapping but it probably won't be found on any music sharing service. This CD makes a good doorstop Total garbage. Van Halen has done nothing but go steadily downhill ever since David Lee Roth left the band. Each Sammy Hagar album released was worse than the last one, until finally... Sammy was kicked out of The Band and we were treated to this little jem... Van Halen III. This album is so horrible that there are no words to describe it. That it was even released shows that the Van Halen brothers have totally lost their minds and have no clue. Whatever. They are done, stick a fork in them. Buy every Van Halen album from 1984 and earlier, but avoid Van Halen III like the plague.
