| U2 - Pop Band: U2 Tracks: - Discothèque - Do You Feel Loved - Mofo - If God Will Send His Angels - Staring at the Sun - Last Night on Earth - Gone - Miami - Playboy Mansion - If You Wear That Velvet Dress - Please - Wake up Dead Man U2 presents a challenge for fans U2's 1997 album, Pop, presents a challenge to fans as U2 experiments with techno and pop music, but it is still ROCK at its finest. I pesonally find this to be an interesting Change of pace for U2. First off, "Discotheque" is one of the album's high points. It is wonderfully written and sounds amazing. "Do You Feel Loved", is an awesome rocker. "Mofo" is a great dance song, with an inventive and fun beat. "If God Will Send His Angels" is simply a beautiful song. One of the finest on the album. "Staring at the Sun" is remarkable. Edge's guitar and Bono's lyrics entwine perfectly around each other in this one. "Last Night on Earth" is one of the cd's great rockers, what rock is supposed to sound like. "Gone" is a personal fave. It is lyrically satisfying and sounds amazing. Reason enough to have this album. "Maimi", "The Playboy Mansion", and "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" all have very oringinal sounds and melodies that get stuck in your head, but are not the album's best work. "Please" is another song that attains greatness from its highly intelligent lyrics. "Wake Up Dead Man" is one song itself that is very open to interuptation. Overall, take it or leave it, this is a yeat another amazing album from one of the greatest bands of all-time. POPTASTIC Pop- to make or cause a small explosive sound. And that is what U2 did. after a 3 year hiatus, they swagger back into view with what can only be called a CLASS album. O.K americans may not have grasped the popmart concept, but what about the songs ? Discotheque is just the funkiest U2 song ever. Edge's repetitive riff gets me moving anyway. Do You Feel Loved is rock'n'roll. No ifs or buts, it's rock'n'roll end of story. Mofo - larry mullen not so jr proved his drumming prowess on this song. while bono lyrics are about his mother, the instrumentation on this song is second to none. If God Will Send His Angels- good song, sounds half finished. this is proven by the fact they re-recorded it for the single. Staring At The Sun- if you read the november issue of Q magazine, you will read larry saying this song was not finished properly. WHAT ? this is a top notch tune. Larry, stick to what you're good at- hitting things. Last Night On Earth -good rock song, but Live it kicks ass! Gone - has Richard Ashcroft joined the band? a track reminscent of The Verve reminds us that U2 do emotional songs very well. Miami- Interesting sounds. The Playboy Mansion-see miami If You wear that velvet dress - Bono at his most lustful. Wicked guitar licks from Mr The Edge. However as is the case with U2, Live it kicks ass! Please - see god will send his angels Wake Up Dead MAn- good album closer. gets under your skin and moves around. and stuff. so all in all, a class album (said that before didn;t I ). IMO, is better than ATYCLB, purely because the drums are more prominent on this album. the themes range from joy to darkness and excellent instrumentation. You Americans don't know a good thing when it hits you in the face !! Techno Rock - Is it heck This is a criminally under-rated album. I don't get it when people Call it the LP where U2 went all dance and trance. It does have a lot of great songs on it and little of this sound you Call 'trance'. Discotheque is a classic ,espically the YMCA boomcha! bit (you'll know what i mean if you've seen the video). Last Night On Earth is the most catchy song on POP with a great chorus, a song that comes alive Live on stage. Other memorable songs include Gone and Wake Up Dead Man. The only songs i'm not to keen on are 'Mofo' and 'If god will send his angels'. IGWSHA is one of U2's most bland songs (alongside the dreadful 'Who's going to Ride your wild horses') whilst Mofo is just...Mofo. The version of Staring At The Sun is inferior to the recent remix on the Best Of collection, whilst Bono's recent reworking of '...Velvet Dress' is stunning and better then the album version. Not U2's greatest album but a scatter of classics is well worth 4 stars. Buy U2 Pop at Amazon.com Buy posters at Allposters.comJamster - the latest ringtones for your phone! |
