The Struggle for Survival For wild animals, each day is a struggle to survive, so every sense must remain on high alert. This edgy, taut-nerved vigilance shows clearly in the eyes and posture of both predators and prey, as in the photos above and elsewhere on this site. But as the numbers of wild animals dwindle, so too are the opportunities to see them in their natural state. This realisation has led to a surge in safari tourism, much of it to the nature reservesand national parks of Southern and East Africa. Those fortunate enough to visit these areas oftenwant a record of their safari, hence the growing interest in wildlife photography. Wildlife Pictures Often Disappoint But for the average tourist, picture opportunities are limited by numerous constraints -time, weather, equipment, access restrictions so the wildlife pictures taken on safariare often disappointing and not a true reflection of the experience.
