| Sade - Lovers Live Classification: Pop Band: Sade Tracks: - Cherish The Day - Somebody Already Broke My Heart - Smooth Operator - Jezebel - Kiss Of Life - Slave Song - Sweetest Gift - Sweetest Taboo - Paradise - No Ordinary Love - By Your Side - Flow - Is It A Crime THE SWEETEST TABOO,INDEED Me being a diehard fan of Sade,I nearly was estatic when I found put that she was going to release a Live album of her seamless
'Lovers Rock' tour(in case, you didn't know, the best tour of 2001).Unfourtnaly Sade didn't come to my town BUT after listening to this Sublime 70-minute Live collection,I feel like
I actually played catch-up.Only Sade can sing her rich catolgue
in front of a packed Arena and make it feel as intimate and
passionaite as if she's singing just for you. "LOVERS LIVE" opens up with a bang with a sultry rendition of
"Cherish The Day".Not only does "Cherish" sound better Live but
Sade seems to dig deeper without losing her poise, class, and
sophiscation.Altough every single minute of this album is
worthful,I must admit I there are some moments that will always
stand out.An even-more dub-by take of "Lovers Rock"'s "Slave Song",a sultrier-than-ever version of "The Sweetest Taboo",
a groovy take on "Paradise",and the 8-minute finale of "Is It
A Crime".This song ends this heartful experience with a very high
note.Sade ends this song with a acrobatic vocal that I have never heard her do on a recorded record. For anyone who missed Sade's tour,"Lovers Live" will be a perfect
CD for you to have.Even if you saw the concert and you're a mega-fan of Sade(like your faithful reviewer),you can't do without this one. But,hold up a minute, there are still are songs that I'm kind of let down that Ms. Adu & Co. didn't include on "Lovers Live".
I would've loved to see Sade work out 1984's sultry "Cherry Pie"
or 1992's "Couldn't Love You More" live. Not to mention 1985's
smoky "Maureen" or for that matter,1988's uplifting "Keep Looking",or how about "Lovers Rock"'s powerful "Every Word".
As you can see,I'm mad about Sade's music.
And if you already haven't been seduced with Sade's rare, beautiful gift, this CD will defintly make you a convert rock lovers!
Prior to this, I have not actually watched or heard a full Sade concert. I have been a fan for a while and was very pleased that Sade is releasing a Live concert CD.

The wild fans cheer with each Sade number, and not to mention how great this 40-ish soul bird sounds. She's hot. what's even hotter are the songs. From the breathtaking 1st number Cherish The Day to oldies such as Smooth Operator and Jezebel and newer stuff suchn as By Your Side, you know you havent heard anything like this yet. The old songs take on a new dimension, making them as relevant as they were 15 years back. Sade sounds terribly soulful and her stage charm is irresistable. She doesn't say much but her lo-tech-hi-style show promises to be fun too especially when Sade take to the floor and dances quite admirably.

Her costume Change also Brings on her funkier edge, where she performs the very funky Flow from Lovers Rock. The rock rocked every part of it. Her backup singers and Band are pretty cool too, sychronizing with her seamlessly on each number.

The only grouse: this is only 13-song long.........but hey there's the DVD with additional tracks.......... There's Sade, and then there's everybody else. Indeed, the band's triumphant return graces us with their presence and thanks us for "keeping their flame burning" while also reminding us why Sade, the vocalist, and her band, are masters at projecting socially conscious, beautiful lyrics, and expert instrumentation with majesty and purpose, case in point: "Is it a Crime" and "Jezebel." Sade's voice is urgent, yet, also pure and sultry, totally dynamic; to borrow a phrase from Sade herself,"It dives and it jumps and it ripples like the deepest ocean." It's so refreshing to hear them Live here, listening to the wise improvisations on each track, particularly "Cherry Pie" as we surrender our Love to this elegant woman and band. The only exception to the Live compilation and perhaps the Lover's Rock tour, are that tracks such as "Tattoo" or "Love is Stronger than Pride" were excluded in favor of other material. "Tattoo" is simply a masterpiece and arguably Sade's most introspective and timeless track -- too bad it was not performed. Also, the segue from Smooth Operator to Red Eye should have been included, if only to showcase the excellent instrumentation of Stuart Matthewman, and others. Otherwise, this CD should be an integral part of your collection, and played whenever you want to hear the quintessential Diva and her Band at one of their most powerful and memorable moments.
