| Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene 7-13 Band: Jean-Michel Jarre Tracks: - Oxygene 7 - Oxygene 8 - Oxygene 9 - Oxygene 10 - Oxygene 11 - Oxygene 12 - Oxygene 13 Jean-Michel's return to the roots. Once again Jean-Michel Jarre took his time to prepare a new album and once again he brought a surprise to his fans. Claiming that the new instruments out of which you can dig any sound did not inspire him enough, he returned to the ones he created Oxygen (1-6) with. Jean-Michel Jarre is often called a synthesizer genius and this time he proved he also is a genius of synthesizing. He organically managed to continue the Oxygen saga, driving it track by track from 70's to 90's. It's as much a sequel as a parallel - some of the sound lines will remind you of Oxygen and Equinoxe, as if to say 'How would I do it today'. Just take a look at Oxy 3 and 9, 6 and 13, 4 and 7. The mood is the same, only 20 years later, and the catching melody of Oxy 8 is here to get mass audience. Jarre takes big care of his sound expression, of being up to date, which is also indicated by new arrangements of his greatest hits in Live concerts (Magnetic Fields 2, Orient Express) - you listen and hear late 90's. And so it is with Oxygen 7-13. The circle is finished. Let's wonder where a new one will start. Good album, mind you... This album is certanly not Equinoxe or Oxygene, but it is good. The first three tracks are cool, a bit less imaginative and a bit more modern sounding than the original Oxygene, not that that's a bad thing. Part 10 is less Jarre sounding, but it is cool. Parts 11 and 12 are definately Jarre's most wacko compositions. I don't like them much, they are not very ear friendly and are somewhat poor attempts to recreate the second part of Oxygene Part 5, but they are sure interesting. After that, it comes Part 13; a great song in the style of Oxygene Part 6. To sum up; Oxygene 7-13 is not the best Jarre can do, and it is a bit technoish, but it is good and it wouldn't be strange to see them in a recommendation list. Retro return to the seventies with Analogue soundscapes. A sequel to Oxygene (1-6) this album soley uses Analogue Electronic instruments to achieve a "Commodore 64" sound similar to Jarre's releases in the seventies. Oxygene 7-13 is somewhat uninspired and Jarre himself said it was a rushed release as it was "unfinished." The highlight tracks are 7,8 and 12. Compared with the Live performances in Moscow or in Egypt, this album sounds extremely flat. However, it's not like Tubular Bells 2, it is not a remix of the first album although previous ideas are reused. Nice artwork - 20bit sound. 40 minutes. If you loved Oxygene and Equinoxe you're sure to like this, although a better sequel to Oxygene perhaps would have been more modern-sounding with a mixture of Analogue and digital sounds.
