This is a good CD

Jean Michel Jarre is an Artist who gets ridiculed by some people in the music industry . It is unfair of them to think that because much of his material is outstanding and Truly moving . This CD is no exception . Although having said that you can see why people tend to criticize him on this album . There is a couple of tracks on it where they don't get the imagination going and in the case of part 5 , it is an utter joke .... a horrible mess that sounds like it was played on some kid's toy piano . But other than that the album is very good but I would advise you to start elsewhere if you are thinking of buying a Jean Michel Jarre album

First album to make use of Digital Synths (Fairlight CMI 1)

This album, originally released in 1981, is based in human creations and city life rather than nature's landscapes. This results in more uptempo tracks, with sampled voices and machine noises such as clocks, jets, trains... Sadly, the quality of the synth sounds Jarre uses is not up to the Jarre standards on some tracks, probably the result of Jarre not dominating yet the Fairlight and the unability to produce high quality sample sounds of the CMI 1-2, due to low memory. Even though, this is a sure buy if you already have Equinoxe and Oxygene, especially for the side-long first part. Oh, and don't be scared by its length; it changes completely twice! Other great tracks are Part 3 and Part 4. Oh, and by the way, Part 5 isn't all that bad!

Mediocracy at its best...

I'm a proud owner of all of Jarre's productions to date. I listen to his music on a daily basis and enjoy it all over again. The only member of the 18 CD set that isn't being played on a daily basis is this CD... I find it dull and lacking in the sense of the usual Jarre melodic gardens. You can hear it's Jarre behind the notes, but a somewhat regular and a much less innovative that what I've come to expect of such great musician.
