| Jean-Michel Jarre - En Attendant Cousteau Band: Jean-Michel Jarre Tracks: - Calypso - Calypso Part 2 - Calypso Part 3 - En Attendant Cousteau Must have CD for any Jarre fan Jean Michel Jarre's efforts are once again incredible on this album. For reviewers who do not understand the point of this album, please read on. This album is dedicated to Jacques Cousteau. Calypsos 1, 2, and 3 are named after his seacrafts. And since he spent a lot of time deep under the ocean, Waiting for Cousteau is 46:53 long. That's why the track is so long genius! And no, the three Calypsos are not cheesy. They are three of the finest Pieces of music Jarre has composed in the 1990s. Just because he uses calypso-type rhythms does not make the music cheesy. Listen to the music and judge for yourself. Ambient water music Waiting for Cousteau sounds very "digital" all the instruments used are very clean and sharp. The first 3 parts, Calpyso 1,2,3 are fine if slightly cheesy. A lot of people complain about the 46 minute "Waiting for Cousteau" track being so long and slow but it's the highlight of the album. To me, it's the most thoughtful and relaxing piece of music I've heard and an interesting departure for Jarre. One of Jarre's best works... While 'Waiting for Cousteau' is certainly not 'Equinoxe', it's still one of his best albums and I recommend it (but get Equinoxe and Oxygene before, in that order) Let me decribe the tracks, then get an idea of the album: Calypso Part 1: A steel drum piece that will make your day happy.
Calypso Part 2: My Favorite of the album, it Brings the image to your mind of a submarine submerging into the waters. It somewhat reminds me of the music on Donkey Kong Country 2, although it doesn't sound like it at all.
Calypso Part 3: A slow, melancolic piece, the guitar part is cool too.
Waiting for Cousteau: Man, this is bad music. I use it when I can't Sleep (seriously). It has, however, two nice things: on the middle of the track, a voice yells 'COUSTEAU!', also, you get a nice tune when you play it fast forward.
