| Guns N'Roses - Use Your Illusion 2 Band: Guns N'Roses Tracks: - Civil War - 14 Years - Yesterdays - Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Get in the Ring - Shotgun Blues - Breakdown - Pretty Tied Up (The Perils of Rock & Roll Decadence) - Locomotive (Complicity) - So Fine - Estranged - You Could Be Mine - Don't Cry [Alternate Lyrics] - My World One of the best albums ever! Axl is a horrible singer, other members of GNR might be not the most charismatic bunch of people - but their music rocks! Illusion II is definitely one of the best albums of the 90's, and perhaps one of the best rock albums ever. The music featured on this album is simply inspiring! Fast and energetic guitar assaults orchestrated by one of the better rock guitar players of all times, Slash, are incontestably - the best this genre has to offer. Brilliant incorporations of piano within 14 Years, So Fine and Enstranged distinguish GNR's sound from any other hard rock band. The album is an excellent assortment of different stiles and different agendas. GNR prove that they are much more than a bunch of long-haired die-hard rockers by coming out with this record of smart and beautiful compositions. The first track - Civil War is one of the best social issues songs ever, and even Bob Dylan would be proud to claim the authorship for it. 14 Years is an amazing pure Rock N' Roll with unforgettable soaring piano arrangements. Yesterdays - is a slower, more thoughtful and nostalgic evaluation of one's life. GNR's remix of Knockin' On Heaven's Door (this will sound sacrilegious) is by no means not worse than Dylan's original, and among tens of covers by different artists that I've heard - this is clearly the best one by far. Get In The Ring is so powerful and loaded with relentless energy that the long stream of obscenities are easily forgiven. Shotgun Blues, Pretty Tied Up, Locomotive and You Could Be Mine are fabulously hard-sounding and fast pure rock tracks of the finest quality. Track number 7, Breakdown, features GNR trademark - the ability to brilliantly mix several completely different musical stiles in the same song. Breakdown starts with a slow country and finishes with a wild storm of heavy metal overwhelming guitar solo. So Fine, one of the most beautiful rock-ballads I can think of, is followed by Enstranged - perhaps, My Favorite rock song of all times. Enstranged is an incredibly sophisticated composition that presents several stiles, tempos, energies and emotional layers. Any attempt to describe it would be futile - you must listen to it! The alternative version of Don't Cry is as good as the original one and My World is clearly some experimental piece with very interesting sound. Overall the sound on this album is not similar to anything that you have experienced before! The quality of music is unbelievable, and lyrics are superb and a lot of times very thought provoking. GNR is clearly in the all-time Rock top ten bands and Illusion II is their best album! Better of the 2 This CD, the companion to UYI I, is much better than its brother. Though UYI I is a masterpiece in itself, UYI II is markedly better. Every single song on this CD is Bona Fide excellent, ranging a wide variety of styles in usual Guns N' Roses fashion. Guns N' Roses are unparalleled in terms of talent. Axl's lyrics and singing are as captivating as ever, and his songs really hit home. Estranged is an absolutely incredible song, in addition to being severely underrated, as it's never mentioned in the same breath as November Rain, Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine, and Paradise City. This song alone is worth buying the CD for. More classics on this CD are Pretty Tied Up, Civil War, and the Guns N' Roses cover of Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Though these songs in particular stand out, the whole CD is great. Every single song is just amazing, with impeccable lyrics, singing, and instrumentals. Slash's guitar work is particularly unbelievable--he's arguably up there with Hendrix and Page. The bottom line here is that this is a can't-be-missed CD, and Guns N' Roses' last true album. If you're a fan of hard rock, or even music for that matter, you can't afford not to buy this one. GN'R's finest hour, one of My Favorite albums ever In my opinion "Use Your Illusion II" was Guns N' Roses best album by far and one of My Favorite albums of all time. The opening track "Civil War" gets the album off to an awesome start... then we come to "14 Years", which is a very worthwhile song.... next comes "Yesterdays", a good ballad... then comes "Knockin On Heaven's Door", a very good Bob Dylan cover... "Get In The Ring" and "Shotgun Blues" are not for casual listeners, brutal but awesome.... "Breakdown" is one of the more amazing songs by this band, some of Axl's greatest lyrics and the music behind it is almost as fabulous... "Pretty Tied Up" and "Locomotive" are more straight ahead rock songs that stand as highlights of the album... "So Fine" is a heartfelt tribute to Johnny Thunders written by Duff McKagan, very good... then we come to "Estranged", by far My Favorite song on this album and one of my absolute favorites ever, both the music and lyrics are astounding, in particular Slash's solos on this one, everything I'd want in a song is here in this timeless 9 minutes plus epic... "You Could Be Mine" is another very good hard rock song... the version of "Don't Cry" with alternative lyrics offers a completely different perspective of the song, very interesting.... the closing track "My World" is a Disturbed short little Electronic song done by Axl, might this be a glimpse of the band's future? All in all, an amazing piece of work... a must-own album. Buy Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion 2 at Amazon.com Buy posters at Allposters.comJamster - the latest ringtones for your phone! |
