| Face to Face - Reactionary Band: Face to Face Tracks: - Disappointed - Out of Focus - What's in a Name - You Could've Had Everything - Hollow - Think for Yourself - Just Like You Said - Solitaire - Best Defense - Icons - Shame on Me - Estranged This album is for the fans... Back in March Face to Face put 16 songs on the internet. Fans were asked to vote their favorites on the new album. The twelve with the most votes were selected for Reactionary. Face to Face contends this is an album which was made for the fans. A thank you for continued loyalty and suppory. I think that Reactionary is definately what alot of people wanted to hear. Their last album alienated alot of their fans. Poeople were not ready to deal with the Change of pace that Face to Face showed with Ignorance is Bliss. It was an album which people either loved or hated. But F2F wanted to try somthing different. I think they learned alot with making that record. Their songs became more terxtured. More of The Band became involved in the writing process. The quality of the production improved. And their song writing matured. All of these lessond are applied to Reactionary. This is an album that while picking up the speed and intensity of the music, still remembers all of the great things learned from Ignorance is Bliss. There isn't a bad song on this album. Personally I wish 'Nullification' which was one of the songs not voted on the album, could replace 'Estranged'. But this is a minor complaint, as Estranged is still a good song. The whole album rocks, from the opening chords of 'Dissappointed" to the last second of the last track. The best punk release of 2000 thus far. Amazing. An absolutely amazing record. With Ignorance is Bliss, face to face unshackled themselves from the conventional three-chord structure of most punk bands and created a record which surprised their fans. The fans who understood artistic direction were pleasantly taken aback and appreciated the record, while those who were looking for another release of energized punk were somewhat left out in the cold, resulting in its somewhat mixed reviews. With Reactionary, though, The Band continues with their songwriting evidenced in Ignorance to return with a faster tempo. With songs like "Out of Focus" and "Icons", the typical punk rocker will be hard pressed to say that there aren't any fast songs on this record, and those fans that appreciate introspective lyrics will delight in "Best Defense" and "Hollow". Trever Keith's and Chad Yaro's guitars attack the notes and blend them in those uncanny, catchy f2f arrangements. Scott Shiflett's bass playing sounds round and full, and Pete Parada's drumming is the best ever recorded. This record is not only the result of face to face's hard work in the studio, but the FANS as well. This record was originally recorded and finished back in January/February, and, in a fresh approach to assembling the album, The Band posted the songs on the web. They then asked their online community of fans to vote on what songs should appear on the album with the 12 songs most voted on appearing here. As it is usually with face to face, The Band never fails to include its fans in each and every project they do. This is a fantastic album, and I absolutely recommend it without reservation. Back to the roots..well almost, still a good record though When I heard that face to face was going back to their earlier "harder" edge, I was skeptical after the release of "Ignorance is Bliss". Although most people I know HATED this album, I have to say I liked it a lot. The new album definately is much closer to the earlier blistering pace of such classic Punk LP's as "Don't turn away" and "Big Choice", but I'm afraid face to face has matured too much musicly to ever satisfy the fans of those albums. I think their past that old style "3 chords and out" kind of punk. So all in all "Reactionary" is a solid album, and hard core fans such as myself will enjoy it tremendously, as well as other punk rock fans. But if your looking for another "Don't turn away", your not going to be happy. But remember the best thing about Face to Face is that they are a GREAT Live band, so be sure and catch 'em on their upcoming tour, or just buy the "Live in Los Angeles" LP Buy Face To Face Reactionary at Amazon.com Buy posters at Allposters.comJamster - the latest ringtones for your phone! |
