| Erykah Badu - Live Band: Erykah Badu Tracks: - Rimshot (Intro) - Other Side of the Game - On & On - Reprise - Apple Tree - Ye Yo - Searching - Boogie Nights/All Night - Certainly - Stay - Next Lifetime (Interlude) - Tyrone - Next Lifetime - Tyrone [Extended Version] who says it's never as good as the first time? erykah badu, credited with bringing Heart and soul (not to mention acoustic instruments) back to r&b and soul music, has gone out on a limb by re-releasing a Live version of her debut album; not only does she run the risk of upsetting fans hungry for new material, but having not headlined a large-scale tour, her "live" performances had not been established as "legendary". as it turns out, even though fans have already heard most of the album's tracks, badu can guitlessly claim to have produced an album of new material. additionally, her performance Live tops her studio album and has other artists, such as mary j. blige, scrambling to release concert albums, in hopes of mimicing badu's success. _live_ gives listeners more of exactly what made erykah badu an overnight sensation: reality. as badu scats, vamps and raps over familiar ground, one becomes even more aware of the raw talent she possesses. of particular note are the album's new single "tyrone" and badu's skills as an mc on "on & on". The Best Live Album That I Have Ever Heard!! I purchased Baudizm back in February of 97' and I thought it was an instant classic. I was sure that it would be a while before anything topped it. But, when I bought the Live album a couple of months later, it blew me away. First of all, the Live album is much better than Baduizm. It is flawless. This is the best Live R&B album that I own, with Maxwell's MTV Unplugged EP ranking at a close second. On this album, The Band is on point and Badu's cover of Chaka Khan's "Stay" is amazing. Even with the disc in your stereo, Badu makes you feel as if you are there in the audience. That is how hospitable and personal this album is. This album proves that Erykah Badu is more than just a singer, she is an Artist and a great Live performer. With that said, I conclude that is album is Badu's best work to date and it is a must have for those that enjoy Live performances. This album is over four years old, but I still whip this masterpiece out quite often, mainly because the performance on this disc has yet to be matched. More Baduizm I bought this CD for "Tyrone" even though I already owned Baduizm. I was little concerned that it might just be the material from her debut, and it mostly is, but there is enough variation from The Originals to satisfy me. From the opening chords, a sample of Miles Davis' "So What," I was convinced that I had made a good purchase. I liked how Erykah let her background singers take center stage and how she interacted with the audience. Her banter was genuine and funny. She cracked me up on the intro to Tyrone when she told the Audience that she was an Artist and that she was sensitive about her sh!t. LOL. I also enjoyed her cover of that Chaka Khan song. I don't remember the title. Amusing and sassy, Tyrone is by far the crown Jewel of this CD. And although plenty of men were up in arms about the message, I say if you're not a trifling individual, then why should you be offended? Actually, the song reflects poorly on the type of female who would support a grown man and his cronies. I can't wait for the next Badu experience!
