No this is not "All 'N All",or even "Raise!" but Earth,Wind & Fire ar growing up.New guitarist Roland Bautista adds a rockier<BR>guitar muscle to the bands framework and there is a modern techno<BR>influence here but the songs,especially the fast ones are classics."Fall In Love With Me","Spread Your Love",with it's<BR>lovely steel drum work and "Speed Of Love" all work but most <BR>impressive is the Phillip Baily vocal "Freedom Of Choice",an<BR>unusual political-orientated jam that might not sit well with<BR>some 80's fans and in my opinion a good reason why the album wasn't as successful as some others."Elesewhere "Something Special" is an attempt to rewrite "Wanna Be With You" and<BR>"Heart To Heart" is a successful funk-rocker.More beat and dance<BR>heavy yes,harder edged in spots also but unfortunately the last consistant album Earth,Wind & Fire has delivered thus far. THE ELEMENTS GET CAUGHT UP IN THE TECHNO-FUNK FAD POWERLIGHT, WHICH WAS RELEASED IN 1982, HAD THE BASIC EWF SOUND AND SIGNATURES. THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE ALBUM IS THAT IT FAILS TO MEET THE STANDARDS OF IT'S PREDECESSOR'S "ALL N'ALL" AND "I AM". THE STAND OUT JAM ON THIS CD IS "FALL IN Love WITH ME", WHICH CARRIED THE ALBUM. THE PRESSURES OF EXECUTIVES AT CBS RECORDS ARE THE BLAME FOR THE MINIMAL SALES. AS PHILP BAILEY STATED "THE POWERS THAT BE SAID THAT WE HAVE TAPPED IN TO SOMETHING WE DO NOT WANT TO LOSE. WELL IT WAS SOMETHING WE NEVER<BR>WENT AFTER" EWF WAS EXPERIMENTING WITH THE TECHNO-GROOVE FAD, BY 1983 THEY HAD DISBANNED. CBS WANTED A RAISE II, BUT GOT POWERLIGHT INSTEAD. Simply the best Earth Wind and Fire album! Powerlight is Strong from the first to the last song.<BR>Focused,simple,soulful harmonies,funky.A great old school album at best in the catagory of R&B-BANDS. <BR>Speed of Love has a hypnotic groove,and side by side gets<BR>you cha-cha'ing out out the floor,back in the day style.This album along with Raise,and "I am" are my top three Earth Wind and Fire albums.This is because of the balance of beats, melody, and non complexity of instruments.The other albums are good,but they tend to take you on a tangient.If you want to sit down with an old school groove,and not have to get up and forward a bad song,or be distracted,this one is it.
