| Eagles - Hotel California Band: Eagles Tracks: - Hotel California - New Kid in Town - Life in the Fast Lane - Wasted Time - Wasted Time (Reprise) - Victim of Love - Pretty Maids All in a Row - Try and Love Again - Last Resort A true classic A Truly great classic rock album from start to finish. The haunting, classic title track is along with Stairway to Heaven one of the most played songs on rock stations of all time. A Strong sense of melody along with conceptual songwriting drive this album much like The Beatles Sgt Pepper album and Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. There are no filler songs here, apart from the Title track other standouts are New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, and Wasted Time. The closing track which closes out the album beautifully might be one of The Eagles best tracks, The Last Resort. Although some people find the song a bit 'preachy' because of its lyrics, this is an incredibyly, beautifully composed ballad and Don Henley delivers the vocals in one of his most impassioned recordings. <BR>Listening to him sing the lyrics to this song, you are almost transposed into the world of Hotel California. Take a Bow, Joe The Eagles were always better at recording singles than whole albums. At least, they were until guitarist Joe Walsh joined The Fold for "Hotel California" in 1976. Give Walsh credit. He already had a successful solo career, and didn't need to merge with Henley, Frey and company to enhance his popularity. What Walsh managed to do was improve the band's songwriting and give it a stronger sonic edge. That is readily apparent on the title track, which is the band's best song. Without Walsh's expert picking, the song simply wouldn't be the same. "Life in the Fast Lane" and "New Kid in Town," were also radio hits, but unlike previous Eagles albums the remaining songs don't sound like mostly filler material. Walsh even gets in a lead vocal on "Pretty Maids All in a Row." Ultimately, "Hotel California" is a true group success, with all Five members contributing equally, a major feat given the egos that must have been involved. Overall, "Hotel California" deservedly ranks as The Eagles' best studio album. Eagles Gold I keep returning to this album. The vinyl is stored away in the garage but my CD of it resides in the 'often listened to stacker'. Hotel California covers many styles of music - ballads, rock and a hint of country. It includes three songs which perhaps suffered from radio Overkill in the 70's namingly the title track, 'New Kid in Town', and 'Life in the Fast Lane' but they are still brilliant songs. My favourites however were always the album tracks from the haunting 'Victim of love' through to 'Pretty Maids all in a row'. At first glance, you might think that there are not many songs on this album but remember that some of them are quite long -eg. 'The last Resort' which runs over 7 minutes. This album proved that The Eagles could still write hit after hit after some years together. On top of that, three solo careers came out of The Eagles with the most notable being that of Don Henley. Whenever I hear his solo tracks it immediately reminds me of the incredible 'The Last Resort'. Like so many albums, Hotel California is a 'must have'.
