And it works well! Dionne proudly shows off her more than 35 years of musical knowledge,wisdom and absolute artistry on this album.Her voice sizzles with experience in a sultry duet with sexy newcomer,Tyrese in "Be My Neighbor." I clung to her every word and wished she lived next door to me too.(like a watchful mother!)Another highlight is the jubilant and jazzy "Aquarela do Brazil," the title song of her most recent Arista album which contains more smooth,jazzy songs like that. (If you dont have it, I suggest you go get it!)And you cant help but Move something in the salsa-tinged,"Do You Know The Way To San Jose," regenerated with Celia Cruz & Pete Escovedo's orchestra. And dont Dare miss out on the excitement she generates in the jumpy calyspo-inspired remake of "Always Something There To Remind Me" with favorite,Jonathan Butler. Dionne's Gift also includes more wonderfully sung Burt Bacharach songs,"If I Want To" and the classic,"All Kinds Of People." Rounding out "Dionne Sings Dionne" is a straight-ahead gospel ballad entitled,"Humbly I Pray." Every Dionne Warwick will find his or her favorite once again. Thanks Dionne for another lesson well taught in how to make good music then,now,and for the future. Dionne's still got the Midas Touch! What a great album! Certainly worth the 4 year wait. The diva delivers on just about every track on this CD. While her voice has deepened a bit and somewhat mellowed (as all good voices do with time), Dionne still manages to climb the scales and take us over the mountaintop with her steamy, raspy vocals. Just take a listen to "Love Begins with You", and you will be convinced that this lady still has the pipes to knock your socks off! The mellower version of "I Say a little Prayer", is reminiscent of "Deja Vu", but with a more rhythmic and catchy melody. "Aquarela Do Brazil" certainly takes me away as her voice paints a beautiful picture of paradise...utopia...romance...."If I Want To", is such a 'Dionne' song, that any Warwick aficianado should buy the CD just for that cut. It has all the Bacharach melodies that we are accustomed to hearing Dionne wrap her chords around-and with such ease.. "Reach Out for Me", is Truly a great remake, and with a little remixing (Jellybean are u listening?) , this song could become a staple in the dance halls...Hint Hint..River North, release the track wont'cha? Overall, this album is a definite MUST BUY for the fans, and, especially, the critics, some of whom have chosen to write this lady off for some ungodly reason....Anyone who listens to this CD with at least a smidget of objectivity can only come to ONE conclusion-- That the lady, Ms.Warwick, is back, and back with mucho gusto!!! Bravo Dionne!!! A must buy for all Dionne Warwick fans Dionne has produced another wonderful album with the style and class that we are accustomed to. Dionne's voice is lower but remains as timeless as ever especially on "love begins with You" and very energizing on "Aquarela do Brazil". All the tracks old and new are beautifully executed and proves that this elegant and classy lady can still deliver. To the reigning diva, God's speed.
