| Dido - No Angel Band: Dido Tracks: - Here With Me - Hunter - Don't Think of Me - My Lover's Gone - All You Want - Thank You - Honestly OK - Slide - Isobel - I'm No Angel - My Life - Take My Hand [*] Thank You Dido! When I first listened to "Thank You" I thought "who's this girl?" I found out, then "Here with me" came and I knew I had to have this CD.
Dido's first installment contains fresh music, with a mixbag of sounds and textures...it has it all.
Listening to this record is a pleasure, it grabs your ear, Dido sings with incredible passion and the music itself doesn't disappoint. We have pop rock songs with good ol' guitars (the soaring "Don't Think Of Me" and "All You Want") and the electro-ballads that are the best feature in my opinion, ("My Lover's Gone","Slide","Isobel", "No Angel") they show that she means what she sings.
Orchestrations, amazing percuission and Electronic touches, cortesy of Dido's brother, set the very laid-back mood of the album, which is why she is featured on many chill-out compilations.
The lyrics are very smart and witty reflecting her personality perfectly.
All in all a superb first record and I can't wait for her next album, I'm sure it will be if not better, as good as "No Angel" and if you are into Sarah Mclachlan or similar artists, you'll Love this one! Thank You Dido!!
Fave songs: ALL The year's best debut At first listen, Dido sounds like a cross between Sarah Mclachlan and Sinead O'connor. If Lilith Fair were still around today, she will fit right in. However, after listening to this album on my car CD changer several times, her wonderful voice has come to mystify me. All the tracks on this album are poignant, beautiful Pieces about Love and heartbreak. Dido mixes many different styles together, including folk, rock and even electronica. On the opening track "Here with me", the Electronic keyboards add a surreal, dreamlike quality to the song. Other standouts include "Hunter", "Isobel" and "Honestly OK". Although "Thank you" is her big hit right now, I honestly prefer the Eminem version "Stan" which has a more funky hip hop beat. Otherwise, this is a perfect debut that should help Dido win over many critics and make her an important female Artist in the years to come. Promising full-length debut (3.5 stars) Dido's voice will remind you of alot of artists -- McLachlan, O'Connor, Orton, Thorn, among others. But, her style is her own singer -- understated yet warm as if she was singing privately to you.

Like many "trip-pop" albums, "No Angel" mines the same folk-pop + electronica territory that Everything But The Girl created with "Walking Wounded." While not particularly original, the production of her brother Rollo (of house superstars Faithless) nicely punctutates her delicate McLachlan-esque songs without overwhelming it. Moreover, he gives her voice all of the Space and body for her winsome charm.

The lyrics aren't particularly strong. But, in the best songs, te production is Lush Dido rises to the occasion with ache and charm. "Here With Me" is a great trip-pop power ballad. Dido echoes the Sweet sendiments of "Thank You" without being cloying. She hangs on every "her" in the cool diss of "Don't Think Of Me." And, "My Life" (with its Faithless mix of house beats and disco strings) is Dido as full-on diva.

If "No Angel" is not exception, it is still a great-sounding debut featuring amiable songs and a highly talent singer. If Dido's lyrics or songcraft improves, she will No Doubt become a female Artist in the big league.
