A deep dark mode

In your room is probably the most well-written, articulated and emotion driven song off of Songs of faith and devotion and surprisingly the best single as well. First of all, everyone is allowed to have their own opinion about a particular version but please don't let the popular opinion of other reviews in regards to the "zephyr mix" of this song sway you against buying this single.
Firstly, in regards to all those who feel that the zephyr mix " ruined " the song, It is simply a remix, and in this case there are numerous remixes of the song and each are different and everyone has their preferences ( My Favorite version on this cd is the "apex" mix where they barely sing at all ). Please do not let these individual opinions lead you to believe that the only quality song you will be getting is the album version itself. In MY opinion, the zephyr version is a welcomed cheerier enterpretation of a song that's original version is quite intense and at times unsettlingly eerie. I applaud DM for trying a different approach to the song and since my first DM cd WAS the singles collection, that mix was the first version I had ever heard and I wouldn't have gone ahead and purchased this single if I didn't like THAT version. You will find both versions to be quite a contrast to each other but then, isn't that what we would like to hear when we buy a maxi single anyway???
And let's not leave out the great Live tracks on this cd as well. A very nicely done Live track of In your room as well as a song I like to consider somewhat of an added bonus, Policy of truth, which is probably My Favorite version of that song with it's upbeat, anthem style rhythm. Also don't forget about the other remixes on this cd. the "Apex" mix features what I always consider to be a very rare treat for all DM afficianados: Hearing Martin Gore on a totally Dave Gahan vocal song. This is probably the most sensual version as it creates a moody, raw ambience. All versions carry the intesity of the album version but without the gloominess.
As a whole, I think this is a very sucessful single that should please everyone except for the DM-snobs who cry bloody murder if by chance they don't like a particular version. Tsk Tsk, you should know better!

Am I the only one who likes the single remix?

Many a DM fan has spurned the single (Zephyr) remix of In Your Room, but I am here to defend it. While it's quite a departure from the album version and lacks some of the drive and stamina of that version, it's still a very interesting take. It has additional guitar and keyboard parts that really add a lot to the track. The album version was definitely a masterpiece, but don't knock this mix until you've tried it. Higher Love (Adrenaline Mix) is a club/dance style remix. The next In Your Room mix, The Jeep Rock Mix, is good, too. It has more of a hip-hop beat, and has some nice electronica bleeps in it, along with cool distorted vocals. The Apex Mix of In Your Room just loops elements from the original and has very little vocals, mostly just Martin's background vocal. Of the 2 Live tracks, Policy of Truth is the best.

A song viciously murdered

When I've heard "In your room" for the first time while listening to the "Songs of faith and devotion" album I was sure it is going to be a single sooner of later. To my opinion it is the best song in the album, and one of Depeche Mode's best songs. The song had the sound of the classic DM - the sound that made these guys a legendary pop group.
So when the single went out, I wasn't surprised, and I went to buy the cd-single the moment it arrived to the stores. I was dumbfounded.
The single remix is the most evil thing someone can do to a tune! Instead of getting a brilliant DM track, you will get a boring rocky version that lacks all the darkness of the original version, and sounds like a bad cover from an unsuccessfull rock band.
This song is fantastic, so go and buy the album. Don't waste your money on this thing.
