The Metal Album

I am not really that into metal but when I read about how much people with similar tastes to mine loved this album I decided I'd give it a try. I haven't heard any of Danzig's other releases but I am sure to sometime because this album really Truly impressed me. I'd say this album is more of a 4.5 on my scale but I guess I'll round up. Glenn Danzig is a great frontman, just as he was with the seminal punk Band The Misfits. I like the southern rock influence on the album and it doesn't come off too metallish. The lyrics are dark, but not in a demonic or evil sense, not that I really care about that. The real great thing about the lyrics is how Glenn Danzig pulls them off. Many a time during the album he comes off sounding sarcastic. Now to get into the songs. Mother is definately the most famous Danzig song and still gets much airplay on "alternative rock" stations, this is well deserved because it is one of the better songs on the album. The best song on the album in my opinion though would have to be Twist Of Cain. This song may be one of top fifty or so songs. Other standout tracks include Evil Thing, She Rides, and Not Of This World. There is really not a weak track on this album and its pretty easy to play in its entirity with every listen. I'd definately recommend this for anyone remotely interested in metal and most definately the avid metal fan.

Both Underground and Classic

I don't understand after all these years how can an Artist like Danzig be at the same time classic yet, only known to a few people thus making his music belong to the underground stage.

SOUTHERN DARK HARD ROCK is the way I would describe his music and DANZIG I is the album that started it all after Misfits and Samhain.
Great rythm guitars with riffs that stay in your mind from the first time you listen to them.
Great lead guitars by John that gives lessons of how you can be a great guitarist without playing your ass out (watch new gen Timmo and Yngie) but still making sense.
Combine Jim Morrison's vocals with that of the King and what do you have??? EVIL ELVIS!!! I Love the irony and the despair in Glen's voice.
Twisted evil lyrics that match with the music. I don't know if the lyrics and the whole picture didn't make him attracted to the larger masses but I am Glad that the album is just the way it is.
If you like hard rock, heavy metal try this album and you won't be dissapointed. Then if you like this one know that the second album LUCIFUGE is even better that the first one with the third and fourth following in close distance.
I just wish Danzig would read so much comic books and lose time with making Blackacidevi and the mediocre Son of Satan when in the past he has influenced a whole music move.

NORWEGIAN Black METAL MEETS SOUTHERN BLUES

good god is this a Sweet album. Danzig combines heavy Black metal lyrics with equally heavy, foot tapping, head pounding blues riffs. Excellent CD, and an excellent beginning to a long firey reign!
