| Danzig - Black Aria Band: Danzig Tracks: - Overture Of The Rebel Angels - Conspiracy Dirge - Battle For Heaven - Retreat And Descent - Dirge Of Defeat - And The Angels Weep - Shifter - The Morrigu - Cwn Anwnn Interesting at first This album was not one that I held onto for very long. The first time I heard it, I was surprised and awed. After all, the beefy, burly, testosterone-laden ex-punk named Glenn Danzig was best known for his horror style and his punk-art-metal synthesis. Because of that, the symphonic sounds that floated from the stereo really did have an effect on me. I was captivated. But only for a bit. I was surrounded by classical music as a child, and I quickly realized that this album is really not very powerful. For classical/orchestral power that grabs you by the throat, listen to Bach or Beethoven. Not Danzig. In short, the music is thin. After a while, it all sounds the same. Partly, this was because Danzig decided to repeat the main musical theme in every piece. Sometimes this worked, but other times it failed miserably. The subject matter is only hinted at by the dark tones, the minor keys, and the occasional Hollow bells. Emotionally, Danzig has an impact, and he really can be spooky when he tries hard. But his skills as a neo-classical composer aren't quite well-developed enough. He tries, but he's just not quite there. The titles of each "piece" and the CD cover art combine with the theme to bring Danzig's "satanic" personality to the forefront. Danzig's Satanic sympathies really didn't bother me. They really just seemed silly. Is he trying to shock the Audience just because he can, or does he actually believe in the Satanic/occult philosophies? I don't know, I don't care, and really, it doesn't matter. He shoves his satanic imagery in your face so much that it just gets a bit dull. There's no subtlety to it. In short, this was a good try, but not subtle enough or technically skilled enough to have a Strong impact. I do hope that Danzig keeps trying, though. After all, practice makes perfect. Something Different from Glenn Danzig Being once again the master of innovation that he is, Glenn Danzig Ventures into the classical-obscure-gothic-medieval-celtic realms with Black Aria. Something definitely different from his black-heavy metal sound, this is one you'll have to listen to, to understand the greatness behind it. Half of the record is about Milton's book Paradise Lost (with song titles like "Overture of the Rebel Angels" or "Battle for Heaven")It is a masterpiece more than worthy of deserving a place in your record collection. Black Aria- A True Masterpiece from Glenn Danzig I have to say that after listening to this truely enjoyable symphonic piece by the punk legend himself, I give a new respect to this truely talented individual. This however is a Change from his usual "black metal" style and I have to say that I was leary at first but after the opening piece " The Overture of the Rebel Angels" I was drawn into this new world and Felt the music as it was ment to be. This musical piece definatly takes you into a new world or emmotions you may have or have not Felt before, it truely captures you from the opening all the way through to the final parting piece " Cwn Anwnn". Overall, I would have to say is that if you are someone who enjoys instrumental Pieces and Danzig, I would recomend this piece for something unique and truely different, you won't regret it.
