| Cutting Crew - Best of Band: Cutting Crew Tracks: - (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight - Any Colour - Fear Of Falling - Everything But My Pride - Contact High - Tip Of Your Tongue - One For The Mockingbird - I've Been In Love Before - Life In A Dangerous Time - Don't Look Back - The Scattering - Christians - (I Just) Died In Your Arms (Extended Remix) - Reach For The Sky - (Between A) Rock And A Hard Place - If That's The Way You Want It Good 1993 Collection "Cutting Crew" was formed in England in 1985 with "Nick Van Eede" (vocals), "Kevin MacMichael" (Guitars), "Colin Farley" (Bass), and "Marin Beedle" (Drums). After releasing three albums "Broadcast" (1986), "The Scattering" (1989), and "Compus Mentus" (1992), they quietly disbanded in 1993. The four-piece Band scored a #1 hit in the U.S.A. back in 1986 with the smash "(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight", but other than that they remained mainly as a 80's one-hit-wonder. Given the fact that Cutting Crew's last two albums have been out of print, this Greatest Hits compilation on the virgin records, which includes 16 tracks with a length of about 67 minutes, offers a good opportunity for people to explore/obtain Cutting Crew's music. Unfortunately though, no songs from 1992's "Compus Mentus" are included, and the sound quality is not all too stellar by today's standards either. Moreover, the two versions of the track IJDIYAT on this disc are almost identical, making you think either there is a mistake in track selection, or the second version should not have been included. There is also a 2000 "Best Of" compilation with a similar tracklisting, except that it misses the two very good 1990 B-sides "Everything But My Pride" and "Contact High", both included on the 1993 collection. On the other hand, on the 2000 CD, you instead get the extra tracks "The Broadcast", "Sahara", and "It Shouldn't Take Too Long". All said, I let you make your own choice as to which disc to buy, assuming of course they are both in print when you read my review. However, for those folks exploring around: if you're a 80's fan who has a taste for artists such as Johnny Hates Jazz, Spandau Ballet, or Go West, then defenitely pick up one of Cutting Crew's compilation CD's today! Cutting the way Usually the biggest problem with greatest hits collections is that something is left off. Not so with The Best of The Cutting Crew. Leave it to an import disc to get it right. Not only are there 2 versions of (I Just)Died In Your Arms, but all the others are there too. Proving that lyrics are important the cd is also heavy on guitars and synthesizers, but they don't over power the vocals. Songs like Fear of Falling and Everything But My Pride display Strong vocals while One For The Mockingbird and the soulful I've Been In Love Before remind us why the 80's were such a Strong decade in music. This is a must have for any fan of Duran Duran, Mr. Mister, and other big bands of that decade.
