| Carpenters - Horizon Band: Carpenters Tracks: - Aurora - Only Yesterday - Desperado - Please Mr. Postman - I Can Dream Can't I - Solitare - Happy - (I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You - Love Me For What I Am - Eventide Karen at her finest! This is one of the Carpenter's best albums. Never has Karen sounded better. "Solitaire" will give you Chills and "I Can Dream, Can't I" sounds as if Karen is genre born. Her voice is Strong yet vulneralble, sensitive yet commanding. This album was powered by the #1 "Please, Mr. Postman" and "Only Yesterday", but there are so many standouts here, any of the songs could have been hits. "Happy" is an uptempo song written by the Carpenter's guitarist, Tony Peluso. Their version of "Desperado" is the finest rendidtion of the song to date. This is Karen and Richard at their best! Their most mature collection of music and lyrics With the exception of "Please Mr. Postman" and "Happy" this LP/cd is a masterpiece. "Only Yesterday" was the other single from "Horizon," and as nice as it was it was nowhere near as good as the album songs were. "Desperado" is a superb re-make of The Eagles hit. "I Can Dream Can't I" is a dreamy, sophisticated re-make of this 1940's hit. You can't help but get lost in its meloncholy tug and pull. Good piano and orchestration! "Solitaire" is perhaps the best selection on this LP/cd. This is the broken Heart we've all known in that deepest moment of loneliness. This cd is worth the price for this song alone. "(I'm Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You" is an original Carpenters song that proves they write classics. The introspective honesty of this song makes it timeless. "Love Me For What I Am" is another Carpenters original. Another Love song one will find endless enjoyment in listening to. This collections holds up twenty-five years later and will hold up twenty-five more years. Horizon Will Never Fade OKay, I admit it: I'm a sucker for Love songs, especially those with a darker, melancholy undertone. The fact that this was Karen's specialty made me instantly Fall in Love with her voice and song interpretations. Nowhere is that more evident than on 1975's "Horizon". With the exception of the worldwide smash, "Please Mr. Postman", and "Happy" this album remains darker in nature and a supreme showcase for Richard's chillingly perfect arrangements & Karen's heartfelt vocals (By the way, that's Karen doing the drum work on "POstman!" She rocked!) This album marked a stronger, more mature offering from the best pop duo ever, and even minor Carpenters fans should own the remarkable "Horizon".
