| Ace of Base - Singles of the 90's Band: Ace of Base This is the greatest hits you need I got this CD when I went to Sydney, because México suffered the same faith as the US and we got the "GREATEST HITS" album (which absolutely sucks and I wouldn't recommend at all). And SINGLES OF THE 90'S is definitely worth its price, just because of the new tracks (C'est la vie, Hallo Hallo and Love in december). There are also 2 tracks previously unavailable in America: Lucky Love (original version) and Life is a flower. As for the other songs (sure, you'll find The sign, Beautiful life or Cruel summer) , I strongly suggest listening to the original albums (there are great songs that were not singles: Dancer in a daydream, Ravine, Strange ways, Blooming 18...). Finally, it's a shame that the record company keeps on releasing different albums in Europe and América... There are still many AoB I haven't got because of this (Munchausen, Dr. Sun, You and I). if you can get the european versions, they're much better than the ones we have around here! not quite Abba n 1993, a year after there had been an Abba revival, another Scandinavian pop group emerged. The group consisted of two men and two women and the comparison was easily made; certainly when the singles drawn from their debut album Happy Nation, most significantly The Sign and All That She Wants, became international hits. After that they went on to sell fewer and fewer records. This first compilation includes all the singles from 1993-1999 + four new tracks. Ace Of Base has never made music than for any other reason than to entertain, and none of these hit singes sound impressive. But the music was made to entertain and that's what it still does. Wheel Of Fortune, Happy Nation and especially Beautiful Life are still not boring and bring you back to the days when did so well on the international charts. In a time when music sounds manufactured, and already bores after three or four spins that is quite an achievement - especially if you consider that these songs are dance music. C'est La Vie, one of the new songs, is an uplifting item in the style of Always Have, Always Will. Hallo Hallo and Love In December are hauntingly catchy and recall classic Ace Of Base. I don't think that Ace Of Base will survive another decade, but this album is a representative hit story of their achievements. Everyone Must Own This! In a world where most bands stagnate, and release what seems like the same song over and over, it's refreshing to have an act like Ace Of Base that can evolve in its songwriting and produce consistently good material. From their first hit here in the U.S., "All That She Wants", to their newest single, "C'est La Vie (Always 21)", plus two other new songs, this CD has it all. From their first CD, "The Sign", we have the title track, "All That She Wants", "Living In Danger", "Don't Turn Around"--co-written by Diane Warren--, "Happy Nation" and "Wheel Of Fortune". From the second, less successful CD, comes "Beautiful Life", a superb dance track; "Lucky Love", a harder edged reggae track; and "Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry", a song very similar to "All That She Wants", presented here in its extended club mix version. The last all new CD released in America, "Cruel Summer", yielded the title track as a Summer hit. That is included here as well in it's euro-latin flavored "Big Bonus Mix" edition, as well as "Always Have, Always Will", a very 60s-Motown sounding cut; "Everytime It Rains", a beautiful ballad co-written by Rick Nowels, who worked with Madonna on her "Ray Of Light" CD; and "Life Is A Flower", a beautiful pop song with a catchy chorus that will leave you singing for days. Of the new tracks featured, we have: "C'est La Vie (Always 21)", another 60s style pop song, this time with a little more Electronic instrumentation; "Hallo Hallo", very reminiscent of old-style Ace Of Base; and "Love In December", a great slice of techno-pop with a beautiful piano riff. Any serious Ace Of Base fan should seriously consider spending the extra money to import this European version of the CD, as the US release, which came out this April, lacks many of the tracks featured here, and most importantly, only includes ONE of the three new tracks on this CD, "C'est La Vie (Always 21)". This is a great CD from a great group, and perfect for the Summer of 2000!
